Summer Updates
We’ve reached the official start of summer and with that our annual break coming up soon! Please read through a few updates on what we can look forward to and reminders to help with logistics over the coming weeks.
1. Summer Break – We are taking a 3 week break this year as farms transition to summer. Our last pick up is June 9/10 – then break – pickups resume July 7/8. No need to put your share on hold for those dates – you will not be charged. If you need to place a delivery hold for other dates when the CSA is open but you will be away you can check out or FAQ section for how to place a delivery hold.
2.. Stock Up! Check out the CSA Shop to stock up items during the break. We have a variety. of steaks, roasts, ground meats, and the last of the Alaskan salmon until next winter!
3. No Compost Cats starting in July– You should have been receiving notices of this from Compost Cats (now called FoodCycle) about other drop off locations. Here is the map. Please DO NOT bring your compost to the CSA starting in July moving forward.
When we return on July 7th and 8th summer should be in full swing on the farms. A variety of summer crops should be flowing in during July. There were some early setbacks with cucumber beetles this year (these pests can devastate cucurbit crops like melons and cucumbers). Thankfully our farmers have experience with Integrative Pest Management and using techniques like floating row covers, clay powders and organic sprays they were able to protect the young plants. So plan on plenty of cool, crisp melons and cucumber. Other summer crops like tomatoes, eggplants and green beans plus staples like onions and garlic will show up in our shares as well. We are really excited about the Huckleberry Potatoes that Aaron at Arevalos Farm is growing for us! The purple skinned potatoes have a low glycemic index and are supposed to be creamy and delicious. We didn’t have many potatoes last year so we are looking forward to trying these.
