New Roots Farmers

Produce

Tucson, Arizona

The IRC’s New Roots program brings refugees together to share their agricultural skills and connect with their new home country through community gardening and mico-enterprise. Gardening and farming enables refugee participants to tackle food insecurity, live healthier lifestyles and support their families with supplemental income. The IRC provides garden plots, technical assistance and training on topics ranging from climate-adapted production techniques to food safety and business planning. You can find the New Roots program on Instagram @newrootstucson.

We are super grateful for this program and for the many New Roots farmers we get to work with now – sometimes as many as 6 in one week! Take note of the mustards, tokyo bekana, chard and other greens in the spring, as well as okra, eggplant, and peppers in the summer, in your weekly shares and where they are coming from. Together, we are making a stronger, healthier community!
