Arevalos Farm

Produce

Double Adobe, AZ

Arevalos Farm is a third generation Mexican-American family farm located in Double Adobe, AZ.  The farm which was started by Gilbert Arevalos in the 1950’s, has long been known for providing the highest quality vegetables to the local food shed.  After Gilbert’s death, the land laid fallow until grandson, Aaron Cardona took the reins to rebuild the farm.  Since 2013, Aaron has been rebuilding the infrastructure on the farm, converted to drip irrigation and is utilizing organic farming methods.  The belief was that organic farming was the best way for small farms to make a living wage.

In addition to the traditional summer farm stand crops of old, the farm now has something in the ground year-round.  The farm’s organic produce is sold through our CSA, farmer’s markets and to schools, hospitals and restaurants in both Cochise and Pima County.  The farm is known for producing the sweetest watermelon, cantaloupe and canary melon in the area and has added garlic, onions, carrots, cabbage and broccoli to its winter rotation.  It is currently one of the only suppliers of organic grains because of its production of the non-GMO heritage corn, Mexican June, as well as its genetic dry bean creation, Frijol Mechudo.

Aaron continues to farm with the love and support of his family that resides on the original farm; wife Marla, son Camilo, daughter Adelisa, mother Joan, father Art, uncle Donald, aunt Sandy, cousin Bryan (who runs Double Adobe Farm) and Jessica and their kids, Andrew, Emily and Cece.  The farm and family are pillars of the local community and seek to strengthen and rebuild it for the next generations to come.
