Desert Sky Waldorf School

Desert Sky Community School Is Enrolling Now for K-5 and will be at the CSA this week to talk with members who are interested.

This tuition-free charter school guided by the principles of public Waldorf education was co-founded by two long-term CSA members, Shelly Adrian and Erich Saphir, 17 years ago. The school’s mission is to make Waldorf accessible to anyone regardless of socioeconomic status.

Waldorf education, which was started by Rudolf Steiner in Germany over 100 years ago out of an impulse of social inclusivity integrates arts, music, movement, gardening, handwork, and foreign languages with a solid academic curriculum (the last letter grade the school received was an “A”). But most importantly, this pedagogy fosters a livelong love of learning and helps children grow into resilient, compassionate, creative, and independent-minded problem solvers.

The core academic subjects are taught in an immersion format, in so-called main lesson blocks, where students spend the first two hours each day for 3 to 5 weeks studying one academic subject.

The school, which is located in midtown near Swan and Speedway, is currently enrolling for Kindergarten through Fifth Grade on a first-come, first served basis with room still available in all grades.
